Editorial standards

The guides on this site are prepared for Probate Lawyer, and the substantive guides are reviewed by Jim Parke, Lawyer and Chartered Accountant. Each reviewed guide carries the date it was published and the date it was last reviewed.

• We rely on primary sources first: Victorian legislation, the rules of Court, and the Supreme Court of Victoria's own published guidance.
• Where a government body administers the process — the State Revenue Office, the Australian Taxation Office, Land Use Victoria, Births Deaths and Marriages Victoria — we rely on that body's published material.
• We cite the sources we relied on at the foot of each guide, so you can read them yourself.
• We do not use other law firms' articles as a source of law.

• We do not publish figures, thresholds or timeframes we cannot verify against a current official source. Where an amount is indexed and changes over time, we describe the mechanism and point you to the authority rather than quoting a number that will be wrong later.
• We do not promise outcomes, timeframes or results.
• We do not publish testimonials, ratings, awards or rankings on this site.
• We do not present general information as advice about your estate.

• Substantive guides are reviewed on publication and re-reviewed when the law, the Court's process or an official fee changes.
• The 'last reviewed' date changes only when the content has actually been checked, not because the page was edited.
• Where a change in the law affects a guide, we amend the guide rather than adding a note on top of outdated text.
